So….How’s It Going?
Hi gang. Just wanted to touch base with everybody to see if there were any problems with receiving your copy of The Gilmore Girls Companion, or with even placing your order for it. We knew that getting them overseas was going to be a bit challenging; hopefully we have those challenges taken care of. (With the possible exception of shipping charges, unfortunately.)
Again, please feel free to drop me a line at asberman813 (at) gmail.com if you’re having any kind of problem getting a copy. Like I’ve always said, there’s no point writing a book if the people who want to read it can’t get it.

How much did you say it’d cost to the UK (inc. shipping)? 🙂 Still waiting for it to appear on Amazon.co.uk, but I still have 2 months before I was going to get it anyway!
Hi Stacey. I’ve been waiting for it to show up on Amazon UK, too, but I’m getting kind of discouraged.
Somebody called my attention to it being sold on eBay for $26 + $14 shipping to the UK, which puts it at $40, which is what people in the US pay for the book through Amazon ($35 + about $5 for shipping).
I’ve corresponded with the person who runs the store this is being sold through several times by email.

Do you still get money if it’s from eBay? Although I’m guessing they had to buy it from you in the first place! I’ll still be asking for it for a birthday present in March so I can wait a bit to see if it appears on Amazon but £25 isn’t bad at all really for how much content the book contains.

All I’ve got to say is it’s a good thing you have a first name that we all feel so protective toward…. 😉
Well, I’m just as protective about “Soap”, as a fan, and considering how this book turned out, I know you’ll do that one just as well. But no skimping.
Of course, I became a fan of “Soap” (in reruns and DVD after all, since I was born in ’84) first with Robert Guillaume as Benson, but especially when Diana Canova flounced into the dining room as Corinne. Ho-ly crap!
Getting back to Gilmore Girls, I’ve got the best name out of everyone here! Suck it, all you non-Rory-named people! 😉
Yikes, Rory. I understand your love of both Gilmore and Soap, but unless that’s a riff on April’s “It’s like suck it, New England” (7.18), I’m going to have to bring the yellow card out. (It IS the yellow card, right? I’m not a sports person, gang, sorry.)

What the hell?
Oh god, I have to let forth with another “Soap” moment:
Richard Mulligan comes into the room, sees Billy Crystal in that dress and wig and says, “Oh sorry, ma’am, I didn’t see you there.” Crystal turns, Mulligan sees, and reacts in such a classic manner. Whenever I see that, I watch it over and over to marvel at that process of comedy.

Richard Mulligan was one of those actors who almost seemed dangerous to be on the same stage with — not in a bad way, necessarily, but he was an expert of giving you that feeling that absolutely anything could happen when he was around.
Recently I purchased on DVD “Neil Simon’s London Suite” (since Neil Simon is one of my personal gods), and Mulligan has scenes with Madeline Kahn, as a Scottish man, and there’s a moment where his eye starts twitching and he puts his finger on his eye to try to stem it, and it’s just remarkable, between that and the laugh of his character that ends with a snort every time. I especially enjoy after Kahn has gotten into his car and it’s low to the ground (“Cuts down on the drag!” as his Scotsman says). Kahn asks, “This won’t go under a bus, will it?”, and there’s that laugh with the snort.
Mulligan is the main reason I wish “Empty Nest” was on DVD already. I have the same love for it that my dad has for “The Golden Girls.” Yes, we are indeed a Susan Harris household.
I’ve lived Gilmore Girls for the better part of three years in detail (in addition to seven+ years as a fan) — my wife will be the first to tell you that I quote it night and day. (She’s a saint, she really is.)
I envy you not only for having had that experience (and having gone through my own experience of writing a book and then seeing it published, I still envy you), but also for having that patience. Myself, if I was ever compelled to write a book about “The West Wing”, say, I would have to grit my teeth to get through the fifth season (up to “The Supremes,” and then gritting teeth again) and the sixth season, before finding relief in the seventh and final season. That you love absolutely everything about Gilmore Girls is so totally apparent in this book, that it’s as irresistable as the show itself.
The funniest thing about my experience, which I never imagined during the process, is that my mom is reading my book right now. She’s on the Judy Garland essay and I’ve heard many “I didn’t know that…” moments. I think I did mine right.

And I had a similar moment with MY mom. We visited my parents a few weeks ago and she was reading it, which was a great feeling 🙂

Oh I’m not volunteering, zoran. I’m already at work on research on my second book. All I expect is that the same level of care as in the Gilmore Girls book will be brought to the Soap book.
I just see him being influenced by your opinion on the subject. He might put even more effort into this one, now.
