Watch 'Grey Gardens' and you will suddenly see 'Gilmore Girls' in a whole new light.

Amy Sherman-Palladino “was obsessed with Grey Gardens,” someone told me a few months back during an interview for The Gilmore Girls Companion.

I’d heard the title of this particular documentary somewhere before, but knew nothing at all about it.

Last night I saw Grey Gardens for the first time. After the first 10 minutes, I understood a lot more about Gilmore Girls — as well as the Palladinos’ use of popular culture as inspiration — than I ever had before.

My advice to all big Gilmore Girls fans: Netflix (or otherwise get your hands on a copy) of this 1975 flick ASAP. For me to say any more before you’ve seen it will spoil the discovery for those who haven’t.

This one is getting its own discussion thread on the Companion Facebook page and the forums.  Your insights will be greatly appreciated on this little can of worms, gang.
