Our First Look at the Book

OK, many of you have already seen The Gilmore Girls Companion. As you plunked down your hard earned cash for the privilege (or somebody else presented said book to you), that is only right.

Yet, it was only on Christmas Eve that Pamela and I saw our first copies of the book — pretty much the only thing we wanted Santa to bring us this year. (However, that was also the day that yours truly came down with some manner of bug that sent me shuffling off to bed just a few minutes after receiving the books. Yes; boo hoo indeed.)

This may sound a bit weird, but I have to admit that this is the first thing I’ve written that I actually intend to read. Normally, I’m so over whatever it is that I’ve written, I never want to see the text again. Add to that the fact that I am sure to find some mistake or other that made it through the editing process — two good reasons never to read what you’ve written.

But the whole reason I wrote The Gilmore Girls Companion is because I always wanted some kind of souvenir of the show, where I could dip into it if I was looking for a certain quote or fact, or just to revisit Stars Hollow when I have a spare minute. By 2008, it was clear that no such book would be forthcoming, so I ended up writing it myself. Now that the book has been published, I can at last browse through it a bit. I think this is perfectly natural. Now I just have to convince Pamela that the book should sit with us at the table during dinner…

    Hi,

Great book!!! Just as interesting as I had hoped it would be. Thanks again for writing it. But there is one location mistake. 😦 I will wait to see if there is anyone else that noticed it before I tell you what it is.

Hi Chas. Thank you for the kind words; I knew I could rely on you about the locations. The ones in the book were supplied by somebody who worked on the show all seven years, and who has a pretty good memory to boot. That said, whenever you’re dealing with something like this, it’s always possible that something gets lost in the shuffle. Which location is giving you trouble?

(By the way, everyone, be sure to check out Chas’ site: http://www.itsfilmedthere.com/2010/02/gilmore-girls_26.html).
