The Book Has Left the Building
Yes, that day that you all thought would never come (and let’s face it, even we were beginning to have our doubts) has come: At 5 PM ET we pushed the button on our 480-page bundle of joy: The Gilmore Girls Companion. It is now in the able hands of the publisher, BearManor Media.
Reliable sources have informed us that there was a weekend at some point, but this weekend found us going through that beast known as the index, as well as some final tweaks. (Truth be told, reliable sources have been telling us that many, many weekends have been and gone, but these remain unsubstantiated rumors at this point. We’ll let you know if we emerge from our computers long enough to glimpse one.)
And on the subject of that index, let me just say for the record if I never have to alphabetize a book’s subjects again, I will be a happy, happy man indeed. Next time, I’ll read the @!!#! InDesign manual. (Sorry, needed to do that.)
So enough of my grousing, what doe this mean for you, the Gilmore fan who has hung on for who knows how long? A good question, but one for another time, I’m afraid. For now, Pamela and I must stumble forth blindly from our little office at the top of the stairs, blink into the setting sun, and then glance at each other hoping the other will utter those two words that Amy always intended to use to close out the series: “I’ll cook.”*
*No, no, those aren’t THE words; only Amy knows those. That was yours truly’s attempt at humor. Don’t worry, shan’t happen again.
