Book Progress Update

I recently updated the book's Web site.

Since I’m reasonably caught up on the backlog of dayjob work that piled up during my Los Angeles excursion, I figured now was a good time to catch you all up on the progress of The Gilmore Girls Companion. Here’s the deal.

When’s it coming out? Barring unforeseen calamities, the book should definitely be available by Gilmore Girls’ 10th anniversary: Oct. 5, 2010. In fact, if all goes well, it should be out at least a month before that.

What’s been done? As of today, the first two chapters and the last chapter have been finalized, which means they’re ready to be laid out. Several “bumper” chapters (those covering specific aspects of the show such as the crazy work hours, writing of scripts, etc.) also have been finalized. As this book also includes info on each episode of the show, the chapters on the first two seasons have been completed. In the meantime, I’ve updated the Web site to make it easier to see who has been interviewed so far. And yes, there should be at least a few more interviews before the book is completed.

What happens now? Basically, I’m going to spend the next two months (June and July) finishing up writing the book. During the first week of August, art director Pamela Norman will begin laying it out. Once that’s done, we’ll both give it a couple more edits, and then it’s off to the publisher.

So….shouldn’t you get back to writing it? Good point. Off I go!

Cheers for that, Fred. I think the extra time will make for a much better book.
