Populating Stars Hollow

Two qualities that Gilmore Girls is known for are its brilliant writing and its spot-on casting. Every actor, from the leads right on down to those who only had to deliver two or three lines per episode, fit their roles perfectly, and lent the show a unique charm few others can match. Having spoken with casting directors Mara Casey and (yesterday afternoon) Jami Rudofsky, I see why that was the case.

These two women worked their butts off for seven years making sure that every character would be brought to life by the best talent possible. Not only did they help give actors such as Jared Padalecki (Dean) their start in this business, but also they brought such outside-the-box personalities as Norman Mailer, (the real) Paul Anka, Madeleine Albright and Christiane Amanpour to Stars Hollow.

After reading The Gilmore Girls Companion, I hope fans will at last understand the debt we owe to the round-the-clock efforts of Mara and Jami.

We, who are about to watch a Gilmore Girls rerun for the 20th time, salute you!
